My take on extracurricular activities...

During this election season there has been some discussion on athletics, but it's important to consider that last year, out of 49,183 students in grades 6-12 in Cumberland County Schools, only 12,873 (about 26%) participated in at least one sport. While athletics are valuable, what about the remaining 74%? These students are involved in activities like band, orchestra, chorus, drama, art, JROTC, student government, forensics, Science Olympiad, and more. Others may choose not to participate in any extracurricular activities, and we must also acknowledge that elementary schools do not offer sports. EVERY STUDENT MATTERS.
